I hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day – We went on a road trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana for my husband’s 40th re-union of a ninth grade class.
I am a British native, so every time I venture somewhere new within this vast continent, I find it fascinating to study the culture, the scenery, the architecture, and the people. Here are some of the points I discovered. 1. Louisiana is bloody hot. 2. The people talk funny. 3. As if it isn’t hot enough, they like to make their food spicy too. 4. They eat things that I pay the bug man to kill. 5. Did I mention that it is hot? 6. They spell things funny- like “Ah like to eat at Slap yo’ momma’s”. (which hopefully is a restaurant). 7. They get very excited about cooking and planning their next meals. 8. They like to drink a lot of alchohol (this I found quite British). 9. They have palm trees, but no camels (well except for the cigarettes). It was a great visit, and an interesting experience to hear opinions of the man I married, from people that knew him long before he was able to grow facial hair. The re-union was fun, and I found myself making some new friends (probably more to do with alcohol consumption and not diplomacy).
