I find it interesting that my opinion of women has changed so much over time.
When we are little girls, our friends are our sisters, and we cherish them. When we are teenagers, we still have friends, but they are our competitors. We marry, have children and become friends once again. We divorce, and then we become the threat to all of our married female friends.
I have been all of these women. I have had ‘sisters’ who have betrayed me, ‘sisters’ who have used my friendship to gain something they needed. I have had times in my life when I have been disgusted by some friends’ behaviors.
At 50, how my perspective has changed……..
My friends never see my extra pounds, or the new wrinkles on my face. They laugh at all my silly stories and they take time to read this blog. They watch me stumble and pick me up (okay, sometimes they trip me just for a laugh). They cherish my family because they love me, they always tell me my cooking is good and they would still hold my hair from my face, if I threw up after drinking too much red wine.
My friends have become my champions, they are the first line of defense and offense that I possess. They do not question my judgement, reasoning, choice of outfit/hairstyle, and are always in my corner. I would never have expected to have this support, and I am eternally grateful.
Now if just one of them would pay for me to have lypo……well that would be a true friend… Have a great weekend! Jude (The Chunky)
